- Mercedes-Benz joined forces with Steyr-Daimler-Puch to create the original G-Class (W460). It was released in 1979 and aimed largely at farmers and adventurers; Beverly Hills wasn't on the company's radar yet. Civilian production ended in 2018.
- Power comes from a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged V8, rated at 544 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission.
