Highlights
- The Petersen Museum is offering a once-in-a-lifetime experience for hot laps around the world-famous Laguna Seca racetrack during the 2026 Rolex Monterey Motorsport Reunion inside the legendary Porsche 935, with Bruce Canepa behind the wheel. With a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, 750 horsepower, and rear-wheel drive, the iconic race car built by Porsche is one of the most recognizable and winning designs in racing history. One lucky individual and guest will be able to experience an exclusive hot lap session of 3 high-octane laps each around Laguna Seca where they’ll join alongside Bruce Canepa inside the very same Porsche 935 that Bruce raced in IMSA in 1979.
- This experience takes place during the 2026 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, happening Wednesday, August 12th through Saturday, August 16th, 2026 at Laguna Seca Raceway in Salinas, California.
- Former race driver Bruce Canepa has competed in events ranging from IMSA GT to Trans Am to Pikes Peak, even coming in third at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Currently, he spends his time focused on the preservation, restoration, and sale of classic and historic race cars, and is a driving force behind the annual Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion -- one of the world's premier public exhibitions for the coolest and most important racing and performance cars from eras past.
- Only 13 customer-delivered 935s were built by Porsche in 1979 before production concluded in anticipation of future prototype racing. This example, Bruce Canepa’s personal car, was the last factory “werks” car built by Porsche and was allocated to Canepa by Porsche after his privateer team took 3rd place overall at the 1979 24 Hours of Daytona in a Porsche 934.5. His Porsche 935 is regularly campaigned at historic racing events, and is widely considered to be one of the most original examples of a Porsche 935 in existence today.
- Bruce Canepa’s racing experiences run the gamut of vehicles and race tracks, molding him into a well-rounded race car driver. Starting with go-karts at 10 years old, Canepa graduated to super modifieds and sprint cars, and eventually co-drove with racing legends including Bobby Rahal, Rick Mears, Monte Shelton, Gianpiero Moretti, Maurcio de Narváez, Jim Trueman, and others. Racing in IMSA’s GT/GTP series from ‘77 to ’89, Bruce has piloted the MOMO team Porsche 935, the first MARCH GTP “ground effects” prototype (the Electrodyne Lola T600), and Porsche 962s. He has ascended the Pikes Peak hill climb several times in purpose-built Porsche-based open wheelers, along with tandem-axle big rig trucks that set records that still remain today. Bruce regularly participates in historic racing events, driving his own Porsche 935, Porsche 917s, Trans-Am and GTP racers.
- This package is being offered for charity, with proceeds directly benefiting the Petersen Automotive Museum, a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting automotive education, preservation, and community.
