This 2002 BMW M3 Convertible sold for $28,000, and that’s strong money considering its fair value estimate suggests it’s overpriced.

This M3 is a one-family-owned car with just 44,000 miles on the clock. It’s powered by the legendary 3.2-liter inline-six engine and features a six-speed manual transmission. This combination is a big draw for buyers looking for a spirited driving experience. The limited-slip differential adds to its performance chops, while the Cold Weather Package and black Nappa leather upholstery ensure comfort year-round. With xenon headlights, heated power front sport seats, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system, it’s packed with desirable options. Plus, the completed rod bearing recalls give buyers peace of mind about a common issue with these engines.

Now, let’s talk price. The car sold for $28,000, which is 59% above the fair value estimate of $17,600. That's a significant mark-up. The bidding was competitive, with 34 bids submitted, showing that there was real interest in this car. However, even with the low mileage and solid service history, the final sale price feels inflated when compared to recent sales of similar models.

Community reactions were mixed, with one user stating, “Congratulations @hkm2a. This was extremely well bought!” Others seemed to share the sentiment that the bidding might have pushed the price beyond reasonable expectations. It’s clear that while there was excitement around this car, not everyone is convinced it was a wise financial move.

For buyers on the hunt for a similar M3, it’s crucial to pay attention to the service history, especially regarding the rod bearings. Confirming whether the recall has been completed can save you a lot of headaches down the line. Also, keep an eye on the mileage; lower mileage typically commands higher prices, but it’s not the only factor to consider. Condition, options, and documentation can make a significant difference in the final price.
