The 1997 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80 sold for $33,500, which is strong money for a high-mileage example like this one.

This Land Cruiser is a well-regarded model in the off-road world, known for its durability and reliability. With 265,000 miles on the clock, it’s clear that this SUV has been used and appreciated. The 4.5-liter 1FZ-FE inline-six engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission is a solid setup, providing both power and ease of driving. The modifications, including BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires and 16-inch alloy wheels, enhance its rugged character and suitability for off-road adventures. The clean Carfax report adds to its appeal, suggesting that it has been well-maintained over the years.

However, the sale price puts this Land Cruiser at a premium. The bidding was active, with 46 bids indicating a strong interest, but it ultimately sold for 33% above the estimated fair value of $25,200. While some may argue that its high mileage and collector status justify the cost, it’s hard to overlook how much above market value it actually went.

The community was buzzing about this sale, with comments like, “Congrats @Bill9739!!!! You are going to LOVE this 80 Series. I’ll be sad to see this one go,” highlighting the enthusiasm around the vehicle. It’s clear that this Land Cruiser has a fan base, but paying a premium raises questions about future resale value.

For buyers looking for a similar ride, it’s essential to pay attention to the condition and service history. High mileage can be a red flag, but a well-documented maintenance history can make a difference. When evaluating potential purchases, make sure to check for any modifications that might impact reliability and performance, as well as how well the vehicle has been cared for over its lifetime. In the end, a Land Cruiser that’s well-loved can be worth its weight in gold, but don’t get swept up in the excitement at auction—do your homework first.
