A 1996 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet with just 42,000 miles sold for $65,000, and that's strong money for a clean, low-mileage example of the 993 generation.

This car is a prime pick for anyone who appreciates the balance of classic charm and modern performance. The 993 is the last of the air-cooled Porsches, and it’s renowned for its distinctive styling and engaging driving dynamics. This particular model features a 3.6-liter flat-six engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission, which is a sought-after setup for purists. The Arena Red Metallic paint stands out, while the gray leather interior adds a touch of luxury. Having been owned by the seller since 1999, it’s clear this car was well-loved, accumulating about 35,000 miles during that time, with a clean Carfax to back it up.

Now, let’s talk numbers. The sale price of $65,000 came in about 7% below the fair value estimate of $69,600, which means this sale was market-correct. With 36 bids on the table, the bidding was lively, indicating strong interest from potential buyers. That level of engagement reflects the desirability of the car. Low mileage, a manual transmission, and a solid ownership history typically drive prices up, and this car had all three in spades.

The community response was enthusiastic, with comments like, “Oh my. About $10-15K under market,” highlighting the sentiment that this car was a steal. Such feedback reinforces the idea that buyers are on the lookout for well-maintained examples like this one, especially at a price point that feels like a bargain.

For buyers hunting a similar car, keep an eye on the maintenance history. With older Porsches, service records can tell you a lot about how well a car has been cared for. Look for any major services that have been performed, especially on the engine and transmission, as these can be costly if neglected. When you find a low-mileage gem like this 993, make sure it has the documentation to back up its condition.
