The 1991 Mazda MX-5 Miata sold for $9,800, which I’d categorize as strong money for a high-mileage example like this one.

This Miata is a classic lightweight roadster, featuring a 1.6L inline-4 engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. That combo is what draws buyers in – it’s all about the engaging driving experience. With 90,800 miles, this car is no garage queen, but it still packs the charm that Miata fans crave. The B Package adds some desirable features, and the pop-up headlights and manual-folding soft top scream ‘90s nostalgia. Plus, it has a clean Carfax and a limited-slip differential, which is a nice bonus for those wanting a spirited drive.

Now, let’s talk dollars. The bidding hit a solid 41 bids, indicating there was genuine interest in this Miata. However, it sold for 20% above the fair value estimate of $8,200. At $9,800, it’s hard to argue that this wasn’t a bit on the high side, especially considering the mileage and the minor wear it showed, like rock chips and some interior aging. While it’s not uncommon for classic cars to fetch higher than expected prices, this one feels like it pushed the envelope a bit too far.

In the community, feedback was mixed. One sharp comment noted, “A nice driver, but at this price, you could find a better-kept example or one with lower miles.” That sentiment echoes the feeling that while the Miata is a fun car, there are smarter buys out there if you’re patient.

For anyone hunting for a similar car, keep an eye on mileage and maintenance history. The recent service is a plus, but it’s essential to ensure any used Miata has been cared for. Look for signs of rust, especially around the wheel wells and undercarriage. A well-maintained car can be worth the extra dollars, especially with how the market is behaving right now. If you can find one in better condition or with fewer miles, that could be the smarter move.
