A 37,000-mile 1988 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio just sold for $22,000, and that’s strong money for this model, which is currently riding the high of collector interest.

This Alfa Spider is the Quadrifoglio trim, known for its performance and style. The 2.0-liter twin-cam inline-four engine combined with a five-speed manual transmission gives it an engaging driving experience, a big plus for purists. The striking Alfa Red paint and gray leather upholstery add to its visual appeal. With both a body-color hardtop and a black soft top, it offers versatility for any weather. Low mileage at 37k means it's been well-preserved, making it a desirable option for buyers looking for a piece of Italian automotive history.

The bidding frenzy hit 36 bids, indicating strong interest. However, it sold for $22,000, which is significantly above the fair value estimate of $11,000. That's a whopping 100% over what would be expected based on comparable sales. While the low mileage and manual transmission are definitely attractive, the final price seems inflated when you look at those numbers.

Community reactions to the sale were mixed. One user noted the excitement of the bidding, stating, "It was a wild ride the last hour!" This captures the energy of the auction well. Another congratulated the buyer, saying, "You got a good one." Clearly, some in the community feel this was a solid acquisition, but others may wonder if the price reflects the car’s true market value.

For buyers hunting a similar model, it’s crucial to watch for the car’s service history and condition. Low mileage is great, but if it hasn’t been driven regularly, maintenance can be an issue. Check for rust, especially in the undercarriage, and inspect the soft top for wear. Given the spirited bidding, it’s clear that while prices can soar, understanding the fundamentals can help you find a better deal next time.
