This 11k-mile 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Edition sold for $37,500, and that’s strong money for a car that’s 130% above fair value.

This Corvette is a limited-edition Pace Car meant to celebrate its role in the Indianapolis 500. With just 6,502 units made, this one features the desirable L82 350ci V8 engine, paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The Black and Silver color combo isn’t just eye-catching; it's part of the car's charm. The low mileage of 11,000 is impressive and definitely draws in collectors. Features like the removable glass roof panels and Gymkhana suspension add to its sporty appeal, making it a well-rounded package for someone looking for a slice of performance history.

As for the sale price, it’s hard to ignore the numbers. The auction saw 41 bids, indicating some serious interest. However, the final price of $37,500 far exceeds the fair value estimate of $16,300. That’s a staggering 130% markup. Sure, the low mileage and rarity play a role, but paying that much over fair value raises eyebrows. This car has its perks, but at that price, it could have been a more sensible investment.

Community reactions were generally positive, with one user commenting, “I was watching 5 other vehicles that I followed today and this is the only one that met the reserve and sold.” This underscores the competitive nature of the auction and highlights how buyers are keen on unique finds.

For those hunting a similar car, keep an eye on mileage and the specific options that come with it. Low-mileage examples like this one are rare, but they can command a premium. Before diving in, look at recent sales of comparable models to gauge the market. This Corvette may have sold for a pretty penny, but understanding the broader market trends can help you make a smarter purchase next time.
