The 1960 [Volkswagen Karmann Ghia](https://fridayswatchlist.com/search?make=Volkswagen&model=Karmann%20Ghia) Coupe sold for $15,500, and that's a deal. With 24 bids driving the excitement, this one clearly struck a chord with bidders.

This Karmann Ghia is a piece of automotive history. It features the classic lines that defined the model, and its specs are what collectors crave. The 1.2L flat-four engine paired with a four-speed manual transaxle offers an engaging driving experience that’s hard to find in today’s automatic-heavy market. Plus, with only 36,000 miles on the rolled odometer, it’s got the low mileage that many buyers want. The fact that it's unmodified adds to its allure, as collectors often prefer cars that haven’t been tampered with. Its black exterior and red leatherette and cloth upholstery give it an eye-catching contrast that many enthusiasts appreciate.

Now, let’s talk pricing. The final sale price of $15,500 came in at about 10% below the fair value estimate of $17,283. With that gap, it’s clear this car was sold at a strong price for the buyer. The competitive bidding, with 24 participants, indicates a healthy interest level, which suggests the market for Karmann Ghias remains vibrant. In a time when classic Volkswagens can be hit-or-miss in pricing, this one was a solid buy.

The community reaction was overwhelmingly positive. One comment stood out: “What a steal! Beautiful car.” That sums up the consensus pretty well. The bidders recognized the value in this Ghia, and the auction environment reflected that.

For those on the hunt for a similar vehicle, focus on mileage and originality. Cars like this one can vary widely in condition and modifications. Always check the odometer reading and whether the car has been restored or altered in any way. A low-mileage, unmodified example like this Karmann Ghia can make a significant difference in both enjoyment and resale value. Make sure to dig into the car's history, too—this one was imported and had a unique backstory, which often adds to its value.
